Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan picked up his second five-wicket haul in Twenty20 Internationals on Wednesday to become the highest wicket-taker in the format’s history.
Shakib now has 136 wickets in the format, two more than second-placed New Zealand’s Tim Southee.
Shakib started their second T20I against Ireland three wickets behind Southee. However, after his first two overs, he was level as he got rid of Lorcan Tucker, Ross Adair, and Gareth Delany.
In his next over, the Bangladesh skipper trapped George Dockrell LBW to go past Southee before rattling Harry Tector’s stumps to get his second fifer in the format.
Shakib had been the highest wicket-taker in the format before when he went past Lasith Malinga’s 107 during the T20 World Cup in 2021 but was later overtaken by Southee.
Shakib has taken 136 wickets in 112 innings.
