The world's top all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is on the verge of breaking two important records in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 qualifying round.
All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is two wickets away from being the first Bangladeshi player to take the most wickets in any format of the game.
If Shakib takes two more wickets in the tournament he will surpass Sri Lankan great Lasith Malinga for the most T20I wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan has 106 T20I wickets at a great average of 20.68 in 87 innings. On the other hand, Lasith Malinga took 107 T20 wickets at an average of 20.79 in 83 innings.
Shakib Al Hasan would become the only cricketer in history to have 12,000 runs and 600 wickets on the international circuit if he takes two more wickets in the forthcoming ICC Twenty20 World Cup.
Only Jacques Kallis, Shahid Afridi, and Shakib Al Hasan have scored more than 10,000 runs and taken 500 wickets (across all formats). Shakib Al Hasan holds the record for being the fastest to reach this milestone.
Shakib will also become the first Bangladeshi and the 23rd player in international cricket history to reach the 600-wicket landmark. Among active players, he is currently the fifth-highest wicket-taker. Shakib Al Hasan has claimed 598 international wickets at an average of 28.47 in 397 innings for Bangladesh.
Sri Lankan great Muttiah Muralitharan currently holds the record for most international wickets (1,347). Australia’s Shane Warne is in second place with 1001 wickets, followed by India's Anil Kumble (956).
From July to September 2021, the Bangladesh cricket team won three bilateral T20I series against Zimbabwe, Australia, and New Zealand, giving them a lot of confidence heading into the World Cup.
Shakib Al Hasan had a stellar performance and set numerous records during those three series.
Shakib, who is on the verge of breaking two more on the international stage, can shatter those records during the ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2021 if he can regain his form.
