Shakib Al Hasan became the highest wicket taker in Twenty20 internationals as he toppled Lasith Malinga by taking the wicket of Michael Leask in Bangladesh’s first match of the T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman against Scotland on Sunday.
Shakib was two wicket short from Lasith Malinga’s 107 wickets in T20Is and went close after picking a brace against New Zealand in the second match of the five-match T20 series in September.
But he remained wicketless in the next two matches he played for Bangladesh in that series which kept him waiting, but gave him the chance to celebrate the occasion at a grand stage during the T20 World Cup.
Shakib removed Richie Berrington first when the Scottish batsman took the arial route and Afif Hossain took a good catch at long-off.
In the very next ball, Shakib took the wicket of Lisk who gave a catch to Liton Das to reach the apex.
