Batsman Najmul Hossain has been excluded as Bangladesh named a 15-man squad for the first two one-day internationals of a three-match series against Sri Lanka.

The three ODIs against Sri Lanka, which are all a day-night affair, will be held in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, respectively on May 23, May 25 and May 28.

The series is also part of ICC’s ODI championship.

All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan also returned to the side after skipping Bangladesh’s previous ODI series in New Zealand for a family urgency.

He also took a break from a Test tour in Sri Lanka in April to play in the Indian Premier League.

Chief selector Minhajul Abedin said Najmul is among the players to have been rested for the series.

Batman Mohammad Naim, pacer Al-Amin Hossain also have been excluded from the squad that travelled to New Zealand in February-March.

“We thought we would not require too many players for a home series. This is why some players have been rested,” Minhajul told The Business Post.

Naim, Taijul Islam, Shohidul Islam, Aminul Islam Biplob have been kept on stand-by.

Squad: Tamim Iqbal (Capt), Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Md Mithun, Mahmudullah Riyad, Afif Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Md Saifuddin, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Soumya Sarkar, Mosaddek Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Shoriful Islam.
