Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has won the ICC Player of the Month award for July, with West Indies’ Stafanie Taylor.
Shakib had a great July as he contributed to Bangladesh’s series win over Zimbabwe in all three formats. The ace all-rounder picked up five wickets in the only Test and then went on to play an unbeaten knock of 96 runs to hand Bangladesh a victory by two wickets in the second one-day international. He picked up the highest number of wickets in the ODI series as he claimed and also scored 145 runs, making him the third-highest run-scorer in the three-match series.
He failed with the bat in the twenty20 international series but contributed with the ball as he picked up three wickets with an economy rate of seven.
After winning the award, Shakib said that this award was very humbling, and he is very happy to contribute to Bangladesh’ recent success.
“It is very humbling to be voted ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July 2021. There have been many outstanding performances during the month and that is why this is special for me.
“I find most pleasure and satisfaction when I contribute to wins and therefore, I am very happy to have helped in Bangladesh’s successes over the last few weeks,” the all-rounder said.
It was a double delight for Shakib as he also reclaimed his place at the top of the ICC T20I rankings for the first time since 2017 after he scored 114 runs and picked up seven wickets against Australia.
Shakib is the second Bangladesh cricket to receive this award after Mushfiqur Rahim, who was voted the ICC Player of the Month for May earlier this year.
