Ruman Shana and Diya Siddique, the archers who represented Bangladesh in the Tokyo Olympics could not move beyond the 1/8 rounds of the recurve singles events of the Asian Archery Championship.

Ruman lost to his compatriot Mohammad Hakim Ahmed Rubel in the 1/8 round of the men’s recurve singles event while Diya was defeated by Jung Dasomi at the same level.

On the third day’s play of the 22nd Asian Archery Championships 2021 taking place at the Army Stadium in Dhaka; Roman Shana, Mohammad Hakim Ahmed Rubel, Ram Krishna Saha, and Abdur Rahman Alif received a bye in the 1/24 round and moved to the next level.

In the 1/16 round, Roman defeated Nguyễn Hoàng Phi Vũ from Vietnam by 6-0, Rubel defeated Karorov Mirajalol by 6-0, and moved to the next round where they met each other.

In the 1/8 round, Rubel defeated Roman by 6-4 and moved to the quarter-final to face Lee Seung Yun, the archer who won a gold medal in the Rio Olympics 2016.

Rubel was no match for the Olympic gold medalist and former World Champion and he lost it by 6-2 in the quarter-finals.

In the women’s recurve singles elimination round, Beauty Roy from Bangladesh lost to Farida Tukubayeva from Kazakhstan by 2-6 in the 1/16 round.

Diya cleared the 1/16 round by defeating Abdrazak Arujhan and in the pre-quarterfinal she defeated Ankita Vakat, one of the top archers from India, winner of world youth archery championships five years ago.

But once again, Koreans proved their supremacy in the sport of bow and arrow as Jung Dasomi, double gold medalist of Incheon Asian Games 2014 defeated her in the quarter-finals by 1-7.
