Former renowned athlete and general secretary of Bangladesh Women’s Sports Association, Hamida Begum, passed away at her residence in Dhaka around 9:45am on Saturday.
She was 70.
Her namaz-e-janaza was held after Asr prayers at Kakrail mosque in the capital.
A renowned athlete of the 1960s and 70s, Hamida Begum had also served the National Sports Council, Bangladesh Handball Federation, and Bangladesh Archery Federation during a long career as a sports administrator and organiser.
In 2009, she won the National Sports Award for her outstanding contribution to women’s sports in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Cricket Board and Bangladesh Football Federation condoled the demise of Hamida Begum.
