The International Cricket Council on Friday handed Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal a fine of 15 per cent of his match fee for using inappropriate language during Friday’s third one-day international against Sri Lanka.
In a statement on Saturday, the ICC said Tamim was punished for breaching its Code of Conduct related to “use of an audible obscenity during an International Match.”
The incident occurred in the 10th over of Bangladesh’s innings on Friday, when Tamim used inappropriate language after an unsuccessful review of his caught-behind dismissal
“Tamim admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by ICC Match Referee Neeyamur Rashid and there was no need for a formal hearing,” said the ICC.
In addition to his fine, one demerit point was added to the disciplinary record of Tamim, for whom it was the first offence in a 24-month period.
If a player gets four demerit points within 24 months, he gets a one Test or two-limited over game ban.
