Tamim Iqbal announced on Thursday that he will be stepping down as the One-Day International (ODI) skipper of the Bangladesh National Team.

The decision came after a meeting among Tamim, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan, and BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Jalal Yunus at the cricket board chief’s residence in Dhaka’s Gulshan this evening.

"I had a very important meeting with Jalal bhai and the BCB president. We talked about a lot of things, about my decision, and also the reasons behind it. From today, I am stepping down as the Bangladesh ODI captain," Tamim said.

He cited his injury as a big reason behind his decision.

"To me, the injury is a big issue. I have come here after taking injections, but those are hit-and-miss. I have told them my problems. I have always thought about the team first and thinking of that me stepping down will be the best possible thing," he said.

Meanwhile, Jalal Yunus informed that Tamim will not be available for the Asia Cup as he will not be able to return to training before August 21.
