Bangladesh cricket team has been awarded a bonus of 32 million taka for their historic Test series victory against Pakistan which is a commendable initiative by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and BCB President Faruque Ahmed presented a total prize of 32 million TK to the Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto at the Hotel Sonargaon, Dhaka on Saturday.
The Bangladeshi cricketers have also extended their support to those affected by the floods. Following this, Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto announced that the prize money from the BCB would be donated to students injured during anti-discrimination protests.
Shanto said about giving a part of the bonus to those people, “We all know that the situation of the country is very bad and everyone is still struggling. Many people are in danger and trying to overcome the conditions of the flood.”
“Everyone on behalf of the team agreed that we would try to do as much as possible with the bonus that we got to help them apart from here.” He added.
The captain also urged the people of the whole country to stand by the flood victims.
Additionally, the several districts of the country, including Feni, Noakhali and Comilla devastated by severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall and upstream water from India.
Shanto also thanked the board president and mentioned, “ This arrangement will encourage the players and I want to thank our board president Mr. Faruqe.”
“The bonus commitment, which he mentioned earlier, is a part of our contract. Before going to such a big series, this kind of event must motivate every player I think.” He added.
Bangladesh achieved a remarkable whitewash over Pakistan in the Test series, winning both matches on their home ground. In the first Test, Bangladesh secured a 10-wicket victory, and in the second Test, they triumphed with a thrilling 6-wicket win.
The team dominated the series in Rawalpindi, marking a commanding performance across the two Tests. The BCB expressed their appreciation for the cricketers' success by granting a substantial financial bonus.
This victory marks the first Test match win and Test series win against Pakistan on their own soil, 24 years after achieving Test status.
