Bangladesh had a historic Test win against India in their sights as they had picked up seven wickets for 74 but a firm stand between Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin took the game away to ensure that India won the match by three wickets on Sunday to take the series 2-0.

Bangladesh will be ruing the fact that Mominul Haque dropped Ashwin on one as he top-scored with an unbeaten 42, while Iyer stayed unbeaten on 29.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the key in the morning as he picked up five wickets, alongside Shakib Al Hasan’s two, but it proved to be insufficient.

Shakib dismissed nightwatchman Jaydev Unadkat (19) in the second over of the day, and soon Miraz struck to send back the dangerous Rishabh Pant (9) cheaply, before getting rid of the set Axar Patel (34).

It seemed like it was a steep hill to climb for the Indians, but Ashwin and Iyer showed grit and capitalised on the loose deliveries, which took them to an easy finish in the end.
