An unbeaten fifty from Mushfiqur Rahim guided Bangladesh to a seven-wicket win over Ireland in the one-off Test in Dhaka.
Chasing 138, Mushfiq’s unbeaten 51 off 48 deliveries, where he hit seven fours, took Bangladesh home in just 27.1 overs. Mominul Haque was unbeaten alongside him on 20 off 22 balls.
Mushfiq hit a century in Bangladesh’s first innings.
Bangladesh started the second session on 89-2 and lost Tamim Iqbal soon after as the opener tried to pull leg-spinner Ben White and was caught on 31.
However, Mushfiq and Mominul safely took Bangladesh to their first Test win at home after three years.
Earlier, Ebadot Hossain dismissed both the overnight batters – Andy McBrine and Graham Hume – to bowl Ireland out for 292, which set a 138-run target for Bangladesh.
The Tigers sent Liton Das to open with Tamim, a ploy to finish the match off quickly.
That was working as Liton flew off to 23 runs off 19 balls before a freak dismissal sent him back – a short ball from Mark Adair hit the grill of his helmet, then struck his arm, and then rolled on to the stumps to see the batter bowled.
Najmul Hossain Shanto’s poor time in this Test continued as he was caught at slip off McBrine’s bowling for four.
