Taskin Ahmed’s career-best figures saw Bangladesh register the biggest Test win by the margin of runs in this century as they beat Afghanistan by 546 runs in the one-off Test in Dhaka on Saturday.

Chasing a mammoth total of 662, Afghanistan were bowled out for 115.

The win is also the third-highest win by the margin of runs in Test history.

Taskin picked up four wickets for 37 runs, while Shoriful Islam picked up three and Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Ebadot Hossain took one, and Afghanistan’s Zahir Khan was retired hurt after a Taskin delivery hit his arm.

After Bangladesh declared their innings on the third day with a 661-run lead, the Afghans lost both their openers during the evening session that day. They also lost skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi to a concussion and he was replaced by Bahir Shah on the fourth day morning.

It took only 15 balls for Bangladesh to find the first scalp of the morning as a beautiful delivery from Ebadot saw Nasir Jamal (6) edge it to Liton Das behind the wickets.

Afsar Zazai (6) was surprised by a bouncing delivery from Shoriful, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took a simple catch at gully. Bahir (7) was caught brilliantly in the slip cordon by Taijul Islam off Taskin’s bowling.

Rahmat Shah (30) was also sent back by Taskin when he edged one to Liton, and then he produced a beautiful inswinger to dismiss Karim Janat (18).

Miraz got rid of Amir Hamza (5), and Mushfiqur Rahim’s good low catch off Taskin’s bowling saw Yamin Ahmadzai (1) sent back.

And then, when Taskin’s short-length delivery hit Zahir on the elbow as the batter was trying to duck the delivery, the match came to an end as the batter could not continue.
