Opening batsman Munim Shahriar got his maiden call in any national side as the selectors announced the squad for two-match Twenty20 international series against Afghanistan on Monday.

Munim was impressive during the recently concluded Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League where he made 178 runs in six matches for Fortune Barishal at a strike rate of 152.

Wicketkeeper batsman Nurul Hasan Sohan, lower-middle order batsman Shamim Hossain and opening batsman Saif Hasan lost their places in the team.

Yasir Ali, who had an impressive outing in the BBPL for Khulna Tigers and scored 219 runs from 11 matches with a 139.49 strike rate, has earned a spot in the T20 team as well.

He already made his Test debut and has also been placed in the one-day international team which is currently at Chattogram.

Mohammad Naim still holds his place in the T20 team despite having a dismal BPL where he was hardly used as an opener.

His T20I form is also not great and therefore the chief selector said that he should be given rest to reorganise and comeback.

But the left-handed opener made his way to the T20 team as well where he was dropped from the franchise team in the BPL.

The series will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka’s Mirpur.

The matches will take place on March 3 and March 5 respectively at 3:00pm.

Bangladesh T20I squad:

Mahmud Ullah (Captain), Litton Kumer Das, Munim Shahriar, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Yasir Ali Chowdhury, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Nasum Ahmed, Shohidul Islam, and Md Naim Sheikh.

BCB is planning to have a full house in the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram from the second one-day international between Bangladesh and Afghanistan on February 25, a BCB director said on Tuesday.

The first ODI between Bangladesh and Afghanistan on Wednesday will have 3,000-4,000 spectators present, BCB had earlier informed.

But as the Bangladesh government has lifted all Covid-19 restrictions, BCB is planning to allow a full crowd, meaning 18,000 spectators at the ZACS.
