Bangladesh faced another batting collapse in the second innings of the first Test of their two-match series against Pakistan in the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram as they ended the third day on 39-4.

Earlier in the day, Taijul Islam’s display of some brilliant spin bowling saw him pick seven wickets for 116, handing the Tigers a 44-run lead.

But all four of Bangladesh’s top-order batsmen failed, and that meant Bangladesh could only stretch their lead to 83.

Debutant Yasir Ali Chowdhury is accompanying Mushfiqur Rahim at the crease.

Pakistan, who started the day on 145 for no loss, were hit immediately with a double strike by Taijul at the start of the day.

Opener Abid Ali picked his hundred, but Taijul stole the show as he caused havoc in the visitors’ batting lineup.

His seven wickets saw Pakistan bowled out for 286, with nobody but Abid managing to stick at the crease. Ebadot Hossain picked up a couple of wickets with the other going to Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

In reply, Bangladesh’s top-order once again failed to cope with the Pakistan pace attack.

Shadman Islam was trapped LBW by Shaheen Shah Afridi before Najmul Hossain Shanto handing a simple catch to Abdullah Shafique couple of deliveries later.

Bangladesh skipper Mominul then went back off Hasan Ali playing a loose shot and Saif Hassan scored 18 before falling prey to another short delivery from Shaheen.

Mushfiq and Yasir then saw out the day with only Liton Das left to bat among specialist batsmen.
