The current edition of the Dhaka Premier League has seen players who remained in the shadows earlier grabbing the limelight with some brilliant performances.
The ongoing DPL was revamped to Twenty20s to facilitate the national team for the upcoming T20 World Cup later this year.
Mizanur Rahman, Munim Shahriar, Hasanuzzaman and Rakin Ahmed were a few of them who caught the eye with their performances.
Mizanur and Hasanuzzaman are the only centurions of the tournament so far, with Munim and Rakin also racking up big individual knocks.
Mizanur Rahman (Brothers Union)
Mizanur was consistent throughout the tournament, scoring 418 runs in 10 innings, averaging 52.25 and currently occupies the throne for most runs.
Mizan racked up three fifties along with his ton against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in a washed away match. He was unbeaten on 100 off 65 deliveries with three overs to go, when rain hit and teams had to share the spoils.
Munim Shahriar (Abahani Limited)
Munim has been one of Abahani’s regular performers in the absence of Liton Das due to injury.
He has scored 308 runs in 10 innings, averaging 34.22 at a strike rate of 148. He has a couple of fifties, including an unbeaten 92 against Prime Bank Cricket Club.
His knock of 92 only took 50 deliveries, including nine fours and five sixes. His innings helped Abahani amass 183 on their board, paving the way to a 40-run win.
Rakin Ahmed (Old DOHS)
Rakin has been a consistent run-scorer at the top for Old DOHS. He has scored 329 runs at an average of 41.12 including a fifty, which was an unbeaten 92 against Partex Sporting Club.
His innings against Partex had 11 fours and three sixes, helping Old DOHS rack up a mammoth total of 199 and defeat Partex by 23 runs.
Hasanuzzaman (Partex Sporting Club)
In the match where Rakin scored an unbeaten 92, Hasanuzzaman caught the eye with the second quickest century by a Bangladeshi batsman.
He took 48 deliveries to reach three figures and before getting out on 105, he hit 11 fours and seven sixes.
Hasanuzzaman took over the second spot from Tamim Iqbal who had previously scored a 50-ball century in the final of the 2019 Bangladesh Premier League for Comilla Victorians.
The Partex SC batter became only the 10th Bangladesh batter to reach three figures in T20s. The previous nine were Shahriar Nafees, Mohammad Ashraful, Tamim, Anamul Haque, Sabbir Rahman, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Emon, Naim Sheikh and Mizanur Rahman.
Unlike the others, Hasanuzzaman failed to make a mark throughout the tournament as he accumulated only 179 runs in 6 innings.
