Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo said that Tigers have to show Oman massive respect ahead of their do-or-die clash against the hosts to stay alive in the T20 World Cup.
After a six-run defeat against Scotland in their opening match of the tournament, Group B favourites Bangladesh are in serious danger of elimination before they face Oman.
If Mahmudullah Riyad and his men fail to beat Oman and Scotland beat Papua New Guinea, they will have to head home right after the preliminary round ends.
Ahead of the clash, Domingo said that Oman were confident as they came off a 10-wicket win against Papua New Guinea in the World Cup opener on Sunday.
"We have to show Oman great respect. They are confident. They are playing at home. They have come off a good win. But we can’t focus on them. We have to focus on our particular performance, skills and goals," the Bangladesh head coach said on Monday.
He also said that their match against Oman will be difficult and that they had to display their best cricket on the field.
"Oman has been playing well. They want to get into the next round. It will be tough for us, but the boys know that if we play our best cricket, we will have a good chance," Domingo said.
He also added that the players were confident about beating Oman and Papua New Guinea to go through to the Super 12 stage of the World Cup.
"The boys are confident that we can get through. I have great belief in the boys. They have come out on top in some tight games over the last year. The boys are full of belief that we can overcome Oman and PNG, and put ourselves in a position to qualify for the main event," Domingo added.
Bangladesh will face Oman in the Al Amerat Stadium in Muscat at 8:00 pm BST on Tuesday. Their final preliminary stage match against Papua New Guinea on Thursday, starting at 4:00 pm BST.
