Bangladesh T20 captain Mahmudullah said that his side was just not good enough on Sunday night at Oman where his side lost the match against Scotland by six runs in the ICC T20 World Cup.
Mahmudullah blamed the batting unit for the fall and also backed the bowlers even though they leaked some runs after restricting Scotland for 53-6 at one stage.
"I am very much frustrated. There is no reason not to be frustrated. I could not bat well today and lost the game. Our whole batting unit fails us today. We have to regroup and rethink about our batting, we have to play attacking cricket no matter what the situation is" he told in the post-match press conference.
The Bangladesh captain also told that losing Mushfiqur Rahim was the turning point where the match slipped from Bangladesh.
"The fall of Mushi (Mushfiqur Rahim) was the turning point. He needs to stay. We did not capitalize for that one or two big overs where we could fetch 15-20 runs. We could not use the power play well, chasing 140 we need a good start which we did not get. The wicket was very good, we did not bat well," said Mahmudullah.
Shakib Al Hasan just joined the team after his Indian Premier League on the day before, but to Mahmudullah he was not a bit tired.
"To me, he looked regular. Not tired, he was very much on".
Shakib had a bittersweet day as he reached the peak of T20I wickets in the match which his side lost and his innings of 20 from 28 runs also drew some criticism but Mahmudullah defended the all-rounder.
"They (Mushfiq and Shakib) did not bat slowly intentionally, possibly they could not hit the boundaries which they were trying to hit. As we lost the game, many things will come up" said Mahmudullah.
Did the series wins against Australia and New Zealand at home under favourable conditions gave Bangladesh a false sense of Confidence? -Mahmudullah was asked such a question but he also brushed that off.
"This is absolutely wrong" answered Mahmudullah.
Many expatriate fans turned up to the venue in Oman to cheer for Bangladesh but they ended up being on the losing side and the roar of Scotland's celebration was audible in the press conference of Mahmudullah.
The T20 skipper thanked the fans also for their support.
"We possibly did more mistakes than doing right things. The venue was great, the crowd was fantastic, we had great support but we disappointed them," he said.
