Bangladesh batsman Yasir Ali Chowdhury has been ruled out of the ODI and T20 series against the West Indies after failing to recover from a back injury and he will be headed home from the Caribbeans, said a media release from Bangladesh Cricket Board.

Yasir sustained the injury on the first day of the three-day practice match against the Cricket West Indies President’s XI in Antigua on 10 June. A subsequent MRI scan revealed Discogenic Back Pain on the Lumbar spine and he was expected to be back in action time for the ODI and T20 international series. However, it now appears that the batsman’s return to playing will be delayed and he will not be able to take part in the upcoming white-ball series.

National Team physio Bayjedul Islam said: “Yasir Ali has not been recovering as anticipated from his back injury and could not start his rehab. As he is still restricted in his physical work after nearly two weeks of rest, we can conclude that his injury time will be extended. He will be missing the remaining matches and is therefore out of the West Indies series”, said the physio in the media release.

Yasir is returning to Bangladesh and will continue his recovery under the supervision of the BCB Medical Team.

He has played five Test matches, six One Day Internationals, and one Twenty20 International for Bangladesh.
