Dhaka stocks fall amid profit booking

The Dhaka Stock Exchange fell on Tuesday due to profit booking tendency of investors after record turnover and market cap in the previous sessions.

Enthusiastic investors were taking profit from the stocks since trading hours began and continued till closing of the day, causing a decline of 10 points in the index.

DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka bourse, tumbled 10 points or 0.16 per cent to 6,617 points.

The daily turnover, another indicator of the market, also dropped slightly to Tk 2,840 crore from 2,939 crore of previous session.

On the day’s trading, BEXIMCO Limited, IFIC Bank, LafargeHolcim, Orion Pharma and Appollo Ispat led the DSE turnover chart, while National Housing Finance and Investment Ltd, Islamic Finance, IPDC, RSRM Steel and International Leasing & Financial Services Ltd topped the gainer list.

On the other hand, Dacca Dying, Emerald Oil, Golden Harvest Agro Industries Ltd., AFC Agro and Beacon Pharma were in the loser chart in DSE.

Two others indices, Shariah index DSES and blue-chip index DS30 declined 9.64 to 1,442 points and 8.52 to 2,384 points respectively to their previous day’s level.

Out of the total 375 issues traded, 137 advanced, 223 declined, and 15 remained unchanged at the Dhaka bourse.

Meanwhile, shares of 63 companies worth Tk 159.6 crore were traded in the block market of Dhaka Stock Exchange on Tuesday.

A total of 42,254,709 shares were exchanged during 107 trades during the trading hours.

Among the companies, Al Arafah Bank had the highest turnover of Tk 72.2 crore, while Delta Life Insurance came second with Tk 35.86 crore, followed by National Housing

Finance and Investment Ltd with Tk 22.18 crore.

The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also closed in the red terrain. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) fell by 7.87 points and 7.93 points respectively.

The turnover value stood at Tk 102 crore in the CSE on Tuesday. Out of the total 330 issues traded, 132 advanced, 181 declined, and 17 remained unchanged on the bourse.
