Noting that the contribution of the capital market to the country’s economy is yet to reach its full potential, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has laid emphasis on increasing engagement of the sector with development activities.

Dr Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed, commissioner of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), came up with the remark while addressing a virtual programme, organised by the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), on Friday.

The BSEC Commissioner noted that the country, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been moving forward to become a successful role model on the world stage.

He also urged the business community to remain vigilant to ensure that the development process is not hampered.

Dr Sheikh Shamsuddin noted that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman issued different sorts of reformative directives within a span of only three years.

He particularly mentioned Bangabandhu’s directives in reviving the economy, formation of administrative bodies, strengthening the health sector, arranging shelters for the helpless, ensuring education, and improving communication system across the country.

DSE Chairman Md Eunusur Rahman presided over the meeting.

DSE Managing Director Tarique Amin Bhuiyan delivered welcome speech on the occasion.

Citing that Bangabandhu had dreamt of a non-communal country free of poverty, hunger and illiteracy, the DSE MD urged all to gear up their efforts in materialising the dream.

The executive directors of the stock market regulator, members of DSE board of directors, former DSE presidents and directors, members of Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) board, and other stakeholders, among others, joined the meeting virtually.
