DSEX rides on fresh record for 4th session

DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, took another leap to settle at the new historical high of 6884.67 points on Tuesday, with a gain of 22.26 points against the previous session. It has been on the rising trend since August 19.

At the day’s end, DSES and DS30 added 7.16 points and 3.61 points respectively to their previous day’s level.

Alongside the indices, the market capitalisation of the Dhaka bourse also hit a fresh all-time high of Tk 5,58,702 crore on Tuesday.

However, the daily turnover declined by 0.43 per cent to Tk 2,763 crore, with the textile sector dominating the turnover chart covering 15.20 per cent of total turnover.

International Leasing Securities, in its daily market commentary, said that the Dhaka stocks continued their record-breaking rally as the investors are more confident and buoyant amid the securities regulator’s approval for the first board of the much-expected Capital Market Stabilisation Fund.

The benchmark index maintained its positive momentum over the last few weeks as the optimistic investors continued buying of shares with an expectation that the DSEX would cross 7,000 points mark soon, it said.

The stock market regulator BSEC on Thursday allowed the investors to avail credit facilities as per the existing margin loan ratio until the benchmark index of the Dhaka bourse exists below 8000 points, the new directive also positive impact on the index up.

Out of the 376 issues traded, 213 advanced, 131 declined, and 32 remained unchanged on Dhaka bourse on the day.

According to the daily market commentary by EBL Securities, the low interest rate turned to be a trigger for the stock market as investors preferred to park their money in the bullying stock market.

However, sectoral performance depicted mixed trends while the large capitalized bank sector observed selling pressure on the bourse on Tuesday, it said.

Among the sectors – paper (2.6 per cent), tannery (2.5 per cent) and ceramic (2.4 per cent) sectors achieved price appreciation where miscellaneous (-0.9 per cent), jute (-0.7 per cent) and IT (-0.5 per cent) witnessed price correction in the day’s session.

The investors’ activity was mostly centered on textile (15.2 per cent), fuel & power (10.9 per cent) and engineering (10.6 per cent) sectors while Beximco (6.8 per cent), Bximco Pharma (3.5 per cent) and Power Grid (2.2 per cent) led the scrip-wise turnover chart.

The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also ended in green terrain. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) advanced by 40.3 points and 68.2 points respectively.

The turnover value of Tk 118 crore in the CSE. Out of the 325 issues traded, 184 advanced, 116 declined, and 25 remained unchanged on the bourses.
