Stocks fall slightly amid profit taking

Stocks at Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges fell slightly on Wednesday following massive selling pressure from investors as most of them booked profit from bullish sessions over the last three days.

DSE’s daily turnover, a key indicator of the market, also decreased as many investors remained cautious over the market tendency before making new trades.

A total of Tk 2,570 crore changed hands at the DSE during the four and a half hours-long trading period, which was Tk 2,762 crore in the previous session.

DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, decreased 5 points or 0.08 per cent to settle at 6,878 points.

Out of the total 374 issues traded, 106 advanced, 147 declined, and 21 remained unchanged at the Dhaka bourse. Meanwhile, shares of 59 companies worth Tk 57.46 crore were traded in the block market of Dhaka Stock Exchange in the last session.

A total of 8,956,045 shares were exchanged in 103 trades during the block trading hours.

Among the companies, Anwar Galvanizing had the highest turnover of Tk 12.25 crore, while Fortune Shoes came second with Tk 11.74 crore, followed by Mercantile Insurance with Tk 6.77 crore.

Meanwhile, the port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed in the red terrain.
