DSEX extends rally crossing 6,900 mark

DSEX, the key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, charged up by 47.1 points or 0.69 per cent to end at 6,916.39 points on the Dhaka bourse on Wednesday as the securities regulator has issued revised public issue rules, setting new IPO quotas for general and other eligible investors.

Turnover increased by 5.20 per cent to Tk 2,366 crore. General Insurance sector dominated the turnover chart covering 17.89 per cent of total turnover.

Advancement of the large capitalized stocks, namely BEXIMCO, Square Pharma and GPH Ispat Limited have largely contributed to the continuation of market’s upward trend.

Investors also continued to focus their attention to General Insurance sector as the sector topped both turnover and return chart. Besides, investors’ participation was agile on the bourse.

At the day’s end, DSES and DS30 added 5.37 points and 20.37 points respectively to their previous day’s level.

Out of the 376 issues traded, 192 advanced, 149 declined, and 32 remained unchanged on Dhaka bourse on the day.

EBL Securities in its daily market commentary said that the index stayed bullish throughout the sessions as investors engaged in buying spree with an anticipation that the market may cross the 7,000 points thresholds soon.

The buoyant investors exert their enthusiasm as the securities regulator has issued revised public issue rules, setting new IPO quotas for general and other eligible investors, International Leasing Securities said its daily market commentary.

The investors were taking position in general insurance, miscellaneous, food, pharma and fuel & power sector stocks which have led the benchmark index to cross 6,900 points mark, it said.

However, some others were liquidating their portfolios from cement, financial institution, textile and telecom sector stocks and reshuffled their portfolios.

Beximco topped the turnover list, followed by LafargeHolcim, GPH Ispat, Beximco Pharma and BATBC.

Rangpur Foundry was the day’s top gainer, posting an almost 10 per cent rise while Prime Finance was the worst loser, losing 6.17 per cent.

The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also ended in green terrain. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) advanced by 95.3 points and 159.3 points respectively.

The turnover value of Tk 99 crore in the CSE. Out of the 320 issues traded, 170 advanced, 124 declined, and 26 remained unchanged on the bourse.

Meanwhile, shares of 60 companies worth Tk 55.71 crore were traded in the block market of Dhaka Stock Exchange in the last session.

A total of 9,510,754 shares were exchanged in 131 trades during the block trading hours.

Among the companies, BNICL had the highest turnover of Tk 77.77 crore, while Brac Bank came second with Tk 72.52 crore, followed by UPGDCL with Tk 4.07 crore.
