The Dubai roadshow on attracting foreign investors has so far attracted a $ 5 billion investment proposal, Salman Fazlur Rahman, the prime minister’s adviser for private industry and investment, has said.

He revealed the figure on Wednesday at an international news briefing about the upcoming roadshow to be organised by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission in the United Kingdom (UK).

“The investors showed interest to invest in infrastructure sector like electric rail connectivity from Dhaka to Chattogram,” he said in response to a question from the reporters.

The foreign investment may also come in the green hydrogen-- the next energy alternative to fossil fuel, he said. In Dubai, the BSEC organised the roadshow from February 9-12.

As part of the ongoing roadshow on the Bangladesh Economy and Capital Market, the BSEC in partnership with Bangladesh Investment Authority (BIDA) and Bangladesh High Commission, London will organise the investment summit in London on November 4 and in Manchester on November 8.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the London investment summit.

BSEC Chairman Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam, BIDA Executive Chairman Md Sirazul Islam and Bangladesh High Commissioner to UK Sadia Muan Tasneem also spoke at the briefing.
