Sri Lankan shares register record close

Sri Lankan shares rebounded to notch another record close on Friday, boosted by consumer and industrial stocks.

The CSE All-Share index closed 0.25 per cent up at 10,162.93 points. The index ended the week 2.5 per cent higher.

Lion Brewery and John Keel Holdings were the biggest boosts to the index, advancing 7.6 per cent and 1.4 per cent, respectively. LOLC Development Finance was the biggest drag, falling 2.6 per cent.

On Friday, data showed the country’s consumer prices rose 7.6 per cent year-on-year in October, against a 5.7 per cent rise a month ago.

The equity market's turnover was 4.94 billion rupees, according to stock exchange data.

Trading volume on the exchange fell to 121.3 million from 142.4 million shares in the previous session.

Foreign investors were net sellers in the equity market, offloading shares worth about 432.3 million rupees, as per exchange data.

The island-nation reported 540 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total to 538,860, while the COVID-19 death toll reached 13,696, according to data from the country's health bureau.
