Capital market to be driving force of economy: BSEC chair
BSEC chairman inaugurates CMJF office cutting ribbon on Friday

The capital market will be a key driving force of Bangladesh’s economy in the coming days as the bourses have successfully earned investors’ trust, says Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Chairman Prof Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam.

He came up with the remark while addressing the inaugural function of the Capital Market Journalists’ Forum (CMJF) office at Al-Razi Complex in Dhaka on Friday.

The BSEC chairman noted that his commission is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a vibrant capital market. As a result, the potential of the stock market is increasing, so does investors’ confidence.

Prof Shibli mentioned that the authorities are giving utmost importance to establishing good governance and safeguarding investors’ capital.

Addressing the function, former Dhaka University professor Abu Ahmed laid emphasis on marking the companies that are performing well but reluctant to get listed with stock exchanges and inspiring them to enter share trading.

He called upon the authorities to take pragmatic steps in this regard, saying that listing of good companies is crucial for turning Bangladesh into an upper middle-income country.

Founded in 2008, the CMJF is a platform of journalists who report on capital market issues.

Since its inception, the organisation has been working to enhance the professional skills of its members in various technical fields through different training programmes.

CMJF President Hassan Imam Rubel presided over the inaugural function moderated by its General Secretary Monir Hossin.

Former BSEC Chairman Prof M Khairul Hossain, BSEC Commissioners Dr Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed and Dr Mizanur Rahman, DSE Chairman Md Eunusur Rahman, DSE Managing Director Tarique Amin Bhuiyan, among others, attended the function.
