The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has urged the stakeholders to create demand for bonds among investors.

“Only bond issuance is not enough, the stakeholders need to create demand for the instrument,” said BSEC Commissioner Md Abdul Halim at a webinar on processes and prospects of date bonds organised by the Dhaka Stock Exchange on Thursday.

The current bond policy has been framed in a way that enables all companies to raise funds from the capital market, he said.

Such webinars would only be fruitful if investors become more interested in the bond market, he added.

Addressing the function, DSE Brokers Association President Sharif Anwar Hossain underscored the need for product diversification for a modern and vibrant capital market.

Without diversification, it is quite impossible to make a stock market dynamic and vibrant, he said.

He also urged the stakeholders to work at the individual and institutional level to make the bond market vibrant and attract domestic and foreign investors.

BSEC Executive Director Mohammad Rezaul Karim, UCB Investment Ltd MD and CEO Tanzim Alamgir, Prime Bank Investment Ltd CEO Khandaker Raihan Ali, among others, joined the discussion.
