Govt extends United Power’s Ashuganj plant tenure for 5 yrs

The United Power Generation and Distribution Company Limited has received the government’s approval to continue power generation at its 53 MW Power Plant in Brahmanbaria’s Ashuganj for another five years.

The approval came at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchases held recently, the company said in a filing with the Dhaka Stock Exchange on Thursday.

Earlier on February 2 previous year, the company informed that the power generation activities at the plant were suspended as the agreement, under which the plant runs, got expired and was awaiting renewal.

The UPGCL has 6 power plants in total with 484 MW power generation capacity.

The company was incorporated in 2007 and listed on the capital market in 2015. Its share price increased slightly to Tk 244.20 at the Dhaka bourse on Thursday.

The price moved between Tk 242 and Tk 313.6 throughout the last one year.

The UPGCL has a market capitalisation of Tk 14,138.77 crore while its paid-up capital is Tk 579 crore and surplus reserve is Tk 2,200 crore.
