Dhaka stocks managed to gain amid continued volatility on Monday following the profit-booking fall in the previous session.
DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, rose 16.62 points to settle at 6,758, which was 6,742 on the previous day.
The Shariah-based DSES index was up almost 7 points or 0.50 per cent at 1,465 while the blue-chip comprising DS30 index up 5 points or 0.2 per cent at 2,468.
The prime market puller was Lafarge Holcim Bangladesh Limited, which contributed more than 8 points to the key index.
The other market pullers were - Fortune Shoes Limited, followed by Power Grid Company, Bangladesh Steel Re-Rolling Mills, and Prime Bank Limited.
The market draggers included Bangladesh Export Import Company, Beximco Pharmaceuticals, BRAC
Bank, Square Pharmaceuticals and IFIC Bank.
EBL Securities in its daily commentary said markets reversed to green once again as BSEC’s coordination meeting with the market intermediaries to enhance liquidity supply in the market spurred investors to make fresh investments.
The trading activity also increased as investors took advantage of yesterday’s decline to engage in buying activity. As a result, bourses observed an increase in participation while turnover advanced by 7.6 per cent and stood at Tk 924 crore as against Tk 858 crore in the previous session, it added.
On the sectoral front, engineering (12.6 per cent) issues exerted the highest turnover followed by IT (12.1 per cent) and pharma (11.2 per cent) stocks.
Most of the sectors displayed satisfactory performance, out of which cement (4.9 per cent), tannery (3.0 per cent), and paper (2.5 per cent) sector exerted the most positive return while financial institution (-1.1 per cent), miscellaneous (-0.9 per cent), and life insurance (-0.9 per cent) exerted the most correction.
Out of the 384 issues traded, 176 advanced, 153 declined, and 55 remained unchanged.
The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also settled in green terrain. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) have advanced by 9.5 points and 18.0 points respectively.
