Grameenphone (GP) has reported a net profit of Tk 809.82 crore for the quarter ended March 2022, down 9 per cent from Tk 890.63 crore in the year-ago period.
“Net profit after tax was negatively impacted by modernization cost and currency devaluation,” said its CEO Yasir Azman in a statement on Wednesday.
GP’s revenue from operations rose 4.4 per cent to Tk 3,633 crore, compared to Tk 3,481.26 crore in the year-ago quarter.
It reported total revenues for the first three months of 2022, registering a growth of 4.4 per cent from the same period last year.
However, the leading mobile phone operator’s earning per share (EPS) fell 9 per cent to Tk 6 for January-March 2022, down from Tk 6.60 in the same period a year ago.
In the first three months of this year, GP acquired five lakh new subscribers, taking its total subscribers to 8.37 crore. Internet users accounted for 53.2 per cent or 4.46 crore of the GP’s total subscribers.
Net operating cash flow per share was Tk 12.52 for January-March 2022, up from Tk 11.97 for January-March 2021.
Net asset value (NAV) per share was Tk 42.94 as of March 31, 2022, down 4 per cent from Tk 45.19 in the same period a year earlier.
The regulator held the country’s largest spectrum auction in March where GP participated and bid for the maximum allowable 60MHz of 2.6GHz spectrum.
Very recently, GP launched e-SIM for the first time in the country, allowing customers to opt for mobile connectivity without the need for a physical SIM card in their handsets, said the CEO.
During the first quarter of 2022, Grameenphone invested Tk 391 crore for network coverage and expansion.
The company has paid Tk 2,300 crore equaling 63.3 per cent of its total revenues, to the national exchequer in the form of taxes, VAT, duties, fees, 4G license and spectrum assignment during the first three months of 2022.
