Rumana becomes the first female BSEC commissioner

Rumana Islam has been appointed as the first female commissioner of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).

She took over the post which has been remained vacant for 13 months when Khondoker Kamaluzzaman left the office as a commissioner in March 2021, according to the BSEC press release issued on Sunday. Her tenure will be for four years, it said.

Earlier in April, the government nominated Rumana as a panel judge in the World Bank’s International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes. In 2015, Rumana completed her PhD in International Investment Law from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom.

In 2008, she joined the Faculty of Law at the University of Dhaka as an assistant professor.
