NCC Bank wants to be among top 5: MD

NCC Bank plans to be one of the top five banks in the country in the coming days, its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid has said.

“We achieved a number of our annual goals last year despite the Covid-19 pandemic shocks,” he told a press conference arranged to celebrate the bank’s 29th anniversary on Tuesday.

He said his bank had started implementing the new salary structure, set by the central bank, in April, estimating this would add Tk 40 crore to the bank’s annual expenditure.

Mentioning the current volatility in the foreign exchange market, Rashid said the demand for dollar was high due mainly to growing import payments.

He said his bank was going to introduce Islamic banking by setting up separate windows by the third quarter of this calendar year due to the rising trend in such banking in the country.

Not only customers, but NCC Bank was also working for the betterment of its more than 2,200 employees through amending rules and regulations, Rashid noted. He said it was not possible to enhance business without improving
the capital base.

The bank’s Capital to Risk (Weighted) Assets Ratio rose to 15.86 per cent in 2021 from 13.22 per cent a year ago despite the falling trend in the capital base of the country's banking system.

NCC Bank started its journey as an investment company back in 1985. It operated till 1992 with 16 branches. After that, with the central bank’s permission, it became a full-fledged private commercial bank in 1993 with a paid-up capital of Tk 39 crore.
