Average turnover jumps 28.55%

Average turnover increased by 28.55 per cent to Tk785 crore last week where Pharmaceuticals sector dominated the turnover chart covering 14.92 per cent of total turnover.

The key index of the DSEX closed positive this week due to some measures taken by the market regulator BSEC.

The broad index, DSEX, went up by 213.55 points or 3.42 per cent and closed the week at 6,451.53 points.

The blue-chip DS30 index gained 2.09 per cent or 48.30 points and stood at 2,355.68 points. The Shariah-based index DSES gained 42.01 points and stood at 1,415.72 points.

EBL Securities in its market commentary said that Dhaka stocks ended higher attributed to the positive sentiment of investors while expectations of market-friendly policies in the fiscal budget 2022-23 kept them active in the potential sectors.

Several recent measures taken by the BSEC are advancement of credit limit and reduction of lower limit circuit, analysts said.

Market performed five sessions during this week. Market started on a positive note by 2.11 per cent on Sunday. And the market ended at a positive note of 0.29% on Thursday.

Investors were active primarily in Pharmaceuticals & Chemicals (14.5 per cent), Miscellaneous (13.5 per cent), Textile (11.5 per cent), Financial institution (10.7 per cent), Engineering and Food (7.7 per cent), Bank (6.6 per cent) sectors.

All sectors witnessed positive performance out of which General Insurance (9.4 per cent), Jute (9.0 per cent), Life Insurance (8.3 per cent), IT (8.1 per cent), ceramic and services (7.8 per cent), textile (6.3 per cent) observed highest returns this week.

Out of the total 393 issues traded, 356 advanced, 22 declined, and 9 remained unchanged at the Dhaka bourse.

Top ten market gainers based on closing price are - Rahima Food, Ring Shine Textiles, Aramit Cement, Paper Processing and Packaging, Sonar Bangla Insurance, Gemini Sea Food, Tamijuddin Textile Mills, Eastern Lubricants, BDCOM Online and Western Marine Shipyard Limited.

Top ten market losers based on closing price are- Exim Bank, SJIBL Mudaraba Perpetual Bond, S. Alam Cold Rolled Steels, Beacon Pharmaceuticals, Shahjibazar Power, Sonali Paper, Crown Cement, IBBL Mudaraba Perpetual Bond, Beach and Pubali Bank Perpetual Bond.

Top ten companies based on turnover value are- BEXIMCO Ltd., IPDC Finance, Orion Pharma, GSP Finance Company, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, JMI Hospital Requisite Manufacturing, Genex Infosys, Bangladesh Finance, Beximco Pharmaceuticals and, ACI Formulations Ltd.

During this week, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) CSE30 gained 3.29 points where CSCX and CASPI added 3.30 points and 3.39 points respectively over the last week.
