DSEX index jumps 28.77 points

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, ended the week soaring by 28.77 points.

Average turnover increased by 10.6 per cent to Tk869 crore last week where General Insurance and Pharmaceuticals sector dominated the turnover chart covering 22.3 per cent of total turnover.

The blue-chip DS30 index losses 0.14 per cent or 3.30 points and stood at 2,352 points. The Shariah-based index DSES also losses 0.14 points and stood at 1,413 points.

EBL Securities in its market commentary said that the indices of the Dhaka bourse witnessed mixed sessions this week as positive regulatory initiatives & anticipation of capital market friendly budget declaration kept investors hopeful however the overall macroeconomic scenarios continued to be an issue of concern.

Market performed five sessions during this week. Market started on a positive note by 48.86 point on Sunday. And the market ended at a negative note of 3.94 point on Thursday.

Market may see sector specific movements next week based on the budget declaration Thursday, EBL Securities added the note.

Investors were active primarily in General Insurance (11.2 per cent), Pharmaceuticals & Chemicals (11.1 per cent) and Miscellaneous (10.1 per cent), Miscellaneous (10.1 per cent), Engineering and Textile (9.8 per cent), finance Institution (7.8 per cent) sectors.

Top ten market gainers based on closing price are - Paramount Insurance, Pioneer Insurance Company, Sonar Bangla Insurance, Provati Insurance Company, Renwick Jajneswar & Co (Bd), Global Insurance, Prime Insurance, Pragati Insurance, Purabi Gen. Insurance, Rupali Insurance Company Limited.

Top ten market losers based on closing price are- Trust Bank, Standard Ceramic Industries, First Finance, Shepherd Industries, Kattali Textile, Ratanpur Steel Re-Rolling Mills, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, Bangladesh Monospool Paper Manufacturing, Tung Hai Knitting and Dyeing, Intech Limited.

Top ten companies based on turnover value are- Bangladesh Export Import, Shinepukur Ceramics, Provati Insurance, Salvo Chemical Industry, IPDC Finance, Orion Pharma, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, BDCOM Online, BRAC Bank, and JMI Hospital Requisite Manufacturing Lim.

Out of the total 394 issues traded, 206 advanced, 157 declined, and 26 remained unchanged at the Dhaka bourse.
