Stocks gain amid increased participation

Dhaka stocks rose on Tuesday amid rise in participation, extending their gaining streak for the second straight session.

DSEX, advanced by 22.3 points and settled at 6,343 points as against 6,320 points at the end of the day.

Despite the market managed to settle in the green zone, volatility on the trading floor prevails as investors’ concerns loomed around rising Covid infections and weak macroeconomic cues in the country.

Besides, bourses observed an increase in participation, while turnover has advanced by 16.8% and stood at Tk 8.2bn as against Tk 7.0bn in the previous session. On the sectoral front, Textile (17.5%) issues exerted the highest turnover followed by Engineering (11.0%) and Pharma (10.0%) stocks.

Most of the sectors displayed positive returns, out of which Ceramic (1.7%), Life Insurance (1.0%), and Services (0.9%) generated some positive returns while Tannery (-0.8%) and General Insurance (-0.3%) exerted the most negative returns on the bourse today.

Out of the 386 issues traded, 199 advanced, 133 declined, and 54 remained unchanged. The port city bourse, CSE, also, settled in green terrain. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) stood marginally up by 26.2 and 43.7 points respectively.
