Gambling site appeared on BSEC website

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has launched an investigation into how a promotional page for an online sports betting site appeared on its website.

On Sunday, it came to notice that Betwinner, an online gambling company, appeared on the regulator’s website. The website offers attractive promotions for Bangladeshis bettors.

The regulator wasn’t aware of the incident and removed the site as soon as it came to the securities regulator’s attention, according to the BSEC officials.

Many were surprised to see the promotion of an online gambling company on the website of an important autonomous body. The commission has already formed an investigation committee to look into the matter, according to BSEC spokesperson Mohammad Rezaul Karim.

The link has been removed from the website, he said.

Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan signed a deal with online betting company Betwinner's sister concern Betwinner news.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has said it will review the situation first before sending Shakib a notice if the cricketer is found to be involved in a sponsorship deal with a betting company.
