Stocks pass a bearish week

The equity indices of the Dhaka bourse went through a bearish mode in this week as the announcement of fuel price increase by the regulatory authority has made investors worried regarding the state of the economy.

The DSE’s key index, the DSEX, fell 2.59 per cent to close the week at 6,148.77 points.

The index fell every trading days of the week. And transactions have also been adversely affected.

In the previous week, there were five trading days in the stock market, where the index rose every day. After such a situation, last week’s continuous decline has scared the investors a lot.

It is said that the ongoing global economic recession, the increase in the price of fuel oil in the country, power shortages, loss of value of money against the dollar, and the increase in commodity prices have become obstacles to new investment in the capital market.

Investors say that on one hand, the cost of living is increasing, and on the other hand, the share price is falling and capital is being lost.

In such a situation, new investment decisions will be made after considering the situation.

The equity indices of the Dhaka bourse dropped from its bullish mode in this week as the announcement of fuel price increase by the regulatory authority has made investors worried regarding the state of the economy, Said EBL securities.

DSEX, decreased by 32 points or 2.6 per cent and came down from the psychological threshold of 6,300 marks by settling at 6,149 points.

The economy has already been under pressure from high inflation and depreciation of exchange rate which has been exacerbated by the fuel price hike announcement, it’s added.

The average turnover has decreased by 11.4 per cent in this week to Tk 896 crore, as against Tk 1011 crore in the previous week.
