Bull tosses DSEX over 6,300-mark

Dhaka stocks rallied for the sixth consecutive session on Monday with the benchmark DSEX crossing 6,300-mark after eight days.

The bulls took command of the stock market, tossing the DSEX up by over 40 points to 0.64 per cent to settle at 6,300—its highest since August 7 this year.

The benchmark index rose to the level supported by strong buying seen in fuel & power, ceramics and financial institutions stocks.

The buying binge took the turnover to a seven-month high as the DSE turnover reached Tk 1,478 crore, up 40 per cent from Tk 1,058 crore.

Monday’s turnover was the highest since January 23 this year when it was Tk 1,482 crore.

“The equity indices of the prime bourse continued its gaining streak for another day as investors’ concern regarding the potential gloomy outlook of the economy is slightly mitigated by the steps taken by Bangladesh Bank to stabilize the exchange rate and the news of importing oil from Russia,” said EBL Securities.

The Shariah-based DSES index gained over 7 points or 0.54 per cent to close at 1,380 while the blue-chip DS30 index was up 21 points or 0.95 per cent to settle at 2,247.
