Fire at Fortune Shoes factory extinguished

A fire broke out at Fortune Shoes Ltd in Barisal on Saturday.

“A fire broke out in a part of the raw materials warehouses of the factory,” said the company in a filing with the Dhaka Stock Exchange on Monday.

The factory’s firefighting facility and three units of the Bangladesh Fire Service brought the blaze under control at around 4pm.

Soon after the incident, three units of the fire service reached the spot, it said.

No casualties were reported immediately. The authorities were yet to assess the extent of the damage.

Founded in 2010 and listed in 2016, the company has three subsidiaries—Premier Footwear, Uniworld Footwear, and MJ Industries, and nine production lines with a current capacity of 35,500 pairs of shoes per day.

According to its website, the company has a total investment is $40 million. Its yearly turnover is $ 28.08 million. The company generates 3,800 employments.

In the third quarter of FY22, Fortune Shoes’ earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.57, a rise of 46 per cent up from Tk 0.39 during the period.

The company logged a huge profit in the last financial year. Its EPS increased almost 100 per cent. It also reported EPS of Tk 1.59 for the year ended on June 30, 2021, as against Tk 0.80 for the same period a year ago.

For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021, it paid a 10 per cent cash dividend and a 5 per cent stock dividend.

On Monday, the company’s share price remained unchanged at Tk 79.50 on the Dhaka Stock Exchange.
