BSEC sets new trading hours for stocks market

Bangladesh Security Exchange Commission (BSEC) has set new trading hours for the stock market to reduce electricity consumption.

“Stock market activities will start around 9:30am and close around 1:50pm. The timing of the post-closing is from 1:50pm to 2:00pm.”  said a circular of BSEC on Tuesday.

BSEC Joint Director Mohammad Saiful Islam confirmed the information to the media.

The timings were changed in line with the decision of the Bangladesh Bank, government and autonomous offices, the notice said.

BSEC also encouraged operating trading activities using digital platforms.

Earlier on Monday, the government fixed new office hours for all government and autonomous institutions from 8:00am to 3:00pm to tackle the ongoing energy crisis.

The decision will come into effect from Wednesday.

The cabinet made the decision at its weekly meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair on Monday.

Besides, the cabinet set a two-day weekly holiday for the educational institutions.

Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam briefed the reporters about the decision after the meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka.
