Stocks slightly edge up after two-day corrections

Stocks closed slightly higher Tuesday, after a two-day correction, as many investors again went on buying stocks after booking profits in the last few sessions.

The DSEX, the benchmark index of the premier bourse, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), gained 0.14 per cent or 9.29 points to settle at 6,537.6.

Two other major indices, however, edged lower with DS30, the blue-chip index, dropped 3.11 points or 0.13 per cent to close at 2,353, and the DSES, the Shariah-based index, went down 2.50 points or 0.17 per cent to 1,426.

The DSE turnover stood at Tk1480.1 crore on the day, up 8.8 per cent than that of Tk1360.7 crore in the previous session.

Most of the large-cap sectors posted positive performance on the day.

On the sectoral front, jute booked the highest gain of 7.42 per cent, followed ceramics (2.02 per cent), IT (1.81 per cent), textile (1.28 per cent), NBFI (1.04 per cent), bank (0.43 per cent) and the fuel and power (0.39 per cent).

Block trading contributed to 0.7 per cent of the total market turnover.

Beximco was the most-traded stock with shares worth Tk162 crore changing hands.

Besides, Orion Pharma with Tk 123 crore, JMI Hospital Requisite Manufacturing (Tk55.4 crore),
Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (Tk46.9 crore) and IPDC Finance (Tk43.7 crore), became other top traded stocks.

Of the 377 issues traded, 129 advanced, 104 declined and 140 did not see any price movement on the DSE trading floor.
