Stocks end flat

Dhaka stocks extended the losing streak for the second Monday as cautious investors opted to remain watchful anticipating a bleaker global economic future.

Besides, the recent rallies in some selective stocks led investors to partially realise their gains, sending the premier index down in the Dhaka bourse.

The DSEX, the benchmark index of the DSE, shed 4.18 points or 0.06 per cent to settle at 6,510, while the DSES, the Shariah-based index, dropped 0.33 points or 0.02 per cent to 1,420.

The DS30, the blue-chip index, however, gained 1.96 points or 0.08 per cent to close at 2,331.

Turnover, another important market indicator, stood at Tk 1,300 crore on the DSE, versus the tally of Tk 1810.6 crore in the previous session.

Investors opted to remain watchful, observing the recent downward trend in the market, and decided to stay sideways ahead of upcoming earning declarations, said EBL Securities, a stockbroker, in its daily market review.

Moreover, recent rallies in some selective stocks led investors to partially realise their gains as concerns loomed around global economic contraction and recent macroeconomic adversities in the country, it commented.

On the sectoral front, miscellaneous posted the highest turnover with a contribution of 20.9 per cent to the total turnover, followed by pharma & chemical (15.9 per cent) and engineering (11 per cent).

Out of the 387 issues traded, 61 advanced, 137 declined, and 189 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
