The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the country’s premier bourse, posted a 10.71 per cent surge in net profit in the financial year 2021-22, thanks to whopping earnings from the stock market in the year.
The Dhaka bourse registered a net profit of Tk 124 crore in FY22 versus Tk 112 crore in the previous fiscal.
The board of directors of the stock exchange declared a 6 per cent cash dividend to its shareholders for FY22 on Thursday. The DSE’s board approved the dividend after reviewing and approving its FY22’s financial results.
The listed firm’s earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.69 for FY22 against Tk 0.63 for the previous fiscal year.
It reported a net asset value (NAV) per share of Tk 10.79 for the year ended in June 2022. The recommended dividend is expected to get the investors’ approval at the DSE’s annual general meeting (AGM) slated to be held on December 26.
The bourse also formed an election commission to elect its board members at Thursday’s meeting.
According to sources at the DSE, its profits soared in FY22 mainly due to a surge in turnover income from the stock market.
Its earnings per share advanced to Tk 0.63 in FY21 from Tk 0.15 in FY20.
The bourse posted a net profit of Tk 27.39 crore in FY20, which was the lowest after being demutualised in November 2013.
Its net profit stood at Tk 97.50 crore in the financial year 2018-19, and the figure was Tk 104 crore in FY18.
The Dhaka bourse had a net profit of Tk 123.91 crore in FY17, Tk 119.82 crore in FY16, Tk 134 crore in FY15, and Tk 135 crore in FY14.
