Unique Hotel’s earnings jump 142% in FY22

Earnings per Share (EPS) of the Unique Hotel and Resorts, a publicly traded company, increased by 142.42 per cent to Tk3.20 in FY22 as business increased due to ease in Covid-19 pandemic situation.

Unique Hotel and Resorts is a leading hotel and hospitality management company which is the owner of “The Westin Dhaka” and the pioneer of Five Star rated hotel in the private sector of Bangladesh.

The board of directors of the company has recommended a 15 per cent cash dividend for general shareholders for FY22 ended on June 30. In FY21 it declared 10 per cent cash dividend for shareholders.

The decision came at a board meeting held on Monday in the capital.

As per the financial disclosure, EPS stood at Tk 3.20 in FY22 against Tk1.32 in the previous year. While the net asset value per share stood at Tk 84.73.

“With the improvement in Covid-19 pandemic situation, hotel and resorts businesses saw a rise. As a result, earning of the company records a sharp rise,” Md Sharif Hasan, company secretary of Unique Hotel and Resorts told The Business Post.

On the other hand, there was extra ordinary income from our subsidiary company in FY22, he added.

The company will hold an annual general meeting (AGM) virtually on December 20 this year to approve the recommended dividend. The record date for recommended dividend is scheduled on November 21.

On Monday, share price of the Unique Hotel and Resorts went up by 5.25 per cent to Tk 64.20 each at the Dhaka Stock Exchange.

On Monday, market capitalisation of the company was Tk 1,795 crore, while its paid-up capital is Tk 294 crore. The company holds a surplus reserve of Tk1,678 crore.

The Unique Hotel and Resorts was established on November 28, 2000, and received the certificate of commencement of business under the brand name "The Westin Dhaka" on July 1, 2007. The company also owns the five-star Sheraton hotel in the capital's Banani and HANSA in Uttara.
