Renata allowed to supply contraceptive pills globally

Drug maker Renata Limited’s Rajendrapur Potent Product Facility (RPPF) which produces birth control pills gets nod from the World Health Organization (WHO) to participate in bidding for supplying the contraceptive medicine in global markets.

RPPF is the lone Bangladeshi factory receiving WHO prequalification for producing birth control pills, according to a Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) filing on Sunday.

Renata Limited, formerly known as Pfizer Limited, is one of the leading drug makers of animal health products in Bangladesh.

The firm started operation in 1972 as Pfizer (Bangladesh) Limited in the country.

Later in 1993, Pfizer transferred the ownership to local shareholders, and the company was subsequently renamed Renata Limited.

The company is involved in the manufacturing, marketing, and distribution of human pharmaceutical products, animal health medicines, nutritional products, and vaccines.

The company’s prime business is producing human drugs and animal health products.

Besides, the company is also a contract manufacturer of UNICEF and SMC for supplying general products including birth control pills, oral saline, and micronutrient powders.

The company has 10 manufacturing facilities inside its three manufacturing sites at Mirpur in Dhaka, Rajendrapur in Gazipur, and Bhaluka in Mymensingh.

It has a paid-up capital base of Tk 107 crore.

Renata shares were traded at Tk 1217.9 per share on the DSE trading floor on Sunday.
