58 listed cos receive ICMAB Best Corporate Award

The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) has awarded 58 publicly traded companies for their outstanding roles in ensuring corporate governance.

The ICMAB handed over the ‘Best Corporate Award 2021’ in 17 categories during a flagship event held at a city hotel on Thursday evening.

They honoured the entities after reviewing their performances based on their respective annual reports.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi graced the award giving ceremony as the chief guest, while Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Chairman Prof Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam and FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin were present as special guests.

President of ICMAB Md Mamunur Rashid also spoke at the event.

The ICMAB accredited a total of 65 organisations with 58 listed firms this year.

The business entities received accolades in 17 categories namely nationalised commercial bank, private commercial bank, private commercial bank (Islamic operation), non-bank financial institution, general insurance, life insurance, pharmaceuticals, cement, and textiles.

The categories also include multinational company, others manufacturing, power generation; oil, gas, and energy; NGO, agro and food processing, trading and assembly, and IT and telecommunication.

In the State-Owned Commercial Bank category, Janata Bank won the first prize with golden crest, while Sonali Bank secured the second position with silver, and publicly listed Rupali Bank received the bronze by becoming third.

Brac Bank was the gold winner under the Private Commercial Bank category, while Dutch-Bangla Bank and Trust Bank jointly won the second prize, and Eastern Bank and The City Bank Limited were jointly named the third prize winners.

In the Private Commercial Bank (Islamic Operation) category, Shahjalal Islami Bank won the first prize, Islami Bank won the second, and Global Islami Bank and Export-Import (Exim) Bank together won the third prize.

In the Non-bank Financial Institutions category, IPDC Finance won the gold, while IDLC Finance won the silver, and Delta Brac Housing Finance and LankaBangla Finance jointly won the bronze.

Green Delta Insurance was the first-place winner in the General Insurance category, while the non-listed Sadharan Bima Corporation secured the second place, and Nitol Insurance and Asia Insurance secured the third place together.

In the life Insurance category, Sandhani Life Insurance won the gold, while Pragati Life Insurance won the silver, and National Life Insurance won the bronze along with Popular Life Insurance.

Square Pharmaceuticals bagged the first prize in the Pharmaceuticals category, followed by Renata with the second prize, and Orion Pharma and ACI Ltd jointly the third position.

In the Cement category, Premier Cement, and MI Cement won the first and second prizes, respectively. And Confidence Cement and Heidelberg Cement Bangladesh together secured the third position.

Paramount Textile won gold in the Textile Category, while Square Textiles bagged the silver, and Esquire Knit Composite and Matin Spinning jointly won the bronze.

In the MNC category, British American Tobacco Bangladesh and Marico Bangladesh shared the first prize, while Reckitt Benckiser Bangladesh secured the second position, and Berger Paints Bangladesh received the third prize.

Bangladesh Steel Re-rolling Mills won the gold in the Others Manufacturing category, while RAK Ceramics (Bangladesh) bagged the silver and GPF Ispat and BBS Cables jointly won the bronze.

In the Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution category, Summit Power was named the first-prize winner. Among others, United Power Generation and Distribution were named the second prize winners and the third position was secured by Doreen Power Generations and Baraka Power.

Olympic Industries was the first prize winner under the Agro and Food Processing category. Besides, Agricultural Marketing Co Ltd and Index Agro Industries shared the second prize, while Apex Foods won the third.

In the Trading and Assembly category, Walton Hi-tech Industries bagged the gold, while Runner Automobiles received the silver, and Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company won the bronze.

Grameenphone was the first-place winner in the IT and Telecommunication category, while Robi Axiata became the second and BDCom Online stood third.

Finally, in the Oil, Gas, and Energy category, Linde Bangladesh won the gold, Meghna Petroleum the silver, and MJL Bangladesh the bronze.

From NGOs, Brac won the gold prize, ActionAid Bangladesh bagged the silver crest, and Sajida Foundation and UCEP Bangladesh shared bronze prize.

The ICMAB introduced its Best Corporate Award back in 2007 to recognise the country’s best corporate enterprises and encourage others to go for good corporate culture and management.
