Capital Market Expo begins tomorrow

In a bid to promote the country’s stock market, a three-day expo will begin in the capital tomorrow (Thursday).

A specialised online news portal – arthosuchak.com – will organise the event in collaboration with the Bangladesh Merchant Bankers Association and the DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh.

The expo will be held in the capital’s Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh, at Kakrail that will remain open for visitors from 10am to 8pm.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi is scheduled to inaugurate the event as the chief guest, the organiser said at a press briefing held Tuesday.

The aim of the expo is to raise awareness among people and brand the country’s stock market so that people get encouraged to invest in the market, said Ziaur Rahman, editor of arthosuchak.com.

Besides, four seminars will be held during the fair where experts and shareholders will discuss about how to get out of the current bearish situation of the market, he said.

This is the fifth capital market expo. The first of its kind was held in 2015.

Some 35 institutions, including Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, Central Depository Bangladesh, Bangladesh Capital  Market Development, merchant banks, asset management firms, credit rating agencies, audit firms and listed companies, will participate in the event.

Saif Powertec, Deshbandhu Group and BBS Cables are the sponsors of the exhibition.

Four seminars on corporate governance and the quality of the audit report will be held on the sidelines of the expo, enlisting state-owned entities to the capital market. The seminars, “Capital Market Experts, Academicians, and Top Executives of the BSEC, DSE, and Asset Managers,” will be held during the fair and will be attended by capital market experts, academicians, and top executives of the BSEC, DSE, and asset managers.

BMBA President Sayadur Rahman and BDA President Richard D’ Rozario were also present at yesterday’s press briefing.

Sayadur Rahman said sometimes investors become affected due to the lack of proper information or being influenced by others. So the capital market expo would help investors learn proper knowledge about the market.
