BSC sees 12% profit surge in Q2 of FY23

State-owned Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) posted a 12 per cent increase in its net profit in the October-December quarter of the current fiscal year. The Shipping Corporation’s net profit stood at Tk 67.5 crore in the second quarter of the fiscal year 2022-23 from the profit of Tk 60 crore in the same period last fiscal.

Meanwhile, it reported a first half yearly profit of Tk 128.28 crore in the current fiscal, up 1.6 per cent from the profit of Tk 126.30 crore in the same period last fiscal.

The country’s autonomous shipping authority reported earnings per share (EPS) of Tk 4.43 for the October-December period, against the EPS of Tk 3.94 for the corresponding period last year.

Its EPS for the current fiscal’s July-December period stood at Tk 8.41, against EPS of Tk 8.28 for the July-December period of last fiscal year.

Despite an increase in profits, shares of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation fell by Tk 7.4 to close at Tk 125 per share on the DSE trading floor on Sunday.

The company gave a 20 per cent cash dividend to its shareholders for the year ending in June 2022.
