BAT Holds Extraordinary General Meeting

British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company Ltd (BAT Bangladesh) held its Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) virtually on Wednesday.

Chairman of BAT Bangladesh Golam Mainuddin presided over the meeting where a significant number of shareholders participated from both home and abroad.

In the EGM, shareholders of the company unanimously approved that Article 77 of the company’s Articles of Association, “Unless and until otherwise determined by the company in general meeting, the number of Directors shall not be less than five nor more than fifteen” to be amended, according to a press release on Wednesday.

BAT Bangladesh is the highest taxpayer in the country, having contributed more than Tk 29 crore as value added tax, supplementary duty and other taxes to the national exchequer.

Independent Directors Aftab Ul Islam and K. H. Masud Siddiqui along with Non-Executive Directors Shirajun Noor Chowdhury, Zakia Sultana, Stuart Kidd, Abul Hossain and Managing Director, Shehzad Munim, Finance Director, Amun Mustafiz and the Company Secretary Md Azizur Rahman were also present in the EGM.

BATBC, however, has put a heavy investment in its Savar factories to ramp up the production facilities in a bid to boost its export income.

British American Tobacco Ltd has invested more than Tk 1,000 crore in its Savar-based factories, according to a DSE filing on 2022.

BAT Bangladesh manufactures a wide range of tobacco products namely Benson & Hedges, John Player Gold Leaf, Capstan, Star, Royals, Lucky Strike, Derby, Pilot, Flag, and Hollywood.

The company got listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange in 1977.
